Empowering Our Elders through Community-Led Support

The Elder Care Support Program at Nhulundu Health Service is a vital initiative designed to assist older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Our mission is to provide support that respects the cultural traditions and needs of our community’s elders. We focus on helping our elders understand, navigate, and access the Aged Care services they are entitled to, ensuring they receive the support they need within their own communities.

Program Aims and Services

Our program is tailored to:

  • Help older Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people engage with the Aged Care system for localised support.
  • Reduce barriers in the Aged Care journey, increasing access to essential services.
  • Promote the provision of care on Country, respecting the connection to land and culture.
  • Gather real-time intelligence on the needs and experiences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elders in Aged Care.

Workforce and Training

We are proud to have a dedicated team of professionals who are supported with extensive training, both face-to-face and online, to excel in their roles. Our staff include:

  • Elder Care Support Coordinators
  • Elder Care Support Connectors

This team works closely with NACCHO Affiliates and regional partners to deliver effective support to our local workforce.

Community Connection and Support

The Elder Care Support Program places a strong emphasis on community connection. Our team engages directly with community members and local service providers to ensure that our elders receive comprehensive and culturally appropriate care.
